Students: Since we will not be distributing new schedules after midterm exams please double check the portal to see if you have a new second semester course as well as the room location so you are prepared on January 28th, the first day of the 3rd quarter.

ATTENTION CURRENT RHO KAPPA MEMBERS:

Each Rho Kappa member needs to demonstrate 15 service hours to maintain membership in Rho Kappa. Your service hours log sheet must be submitted to the Social Studies office by Friday, January 18, 2019 @ 3:15pm. Each event on your log sheet MUST be signed by an adult who can verify you completed the hours. If you completed service hours over the summer and have a letter/email, you can submit a copy of that letter/email in lieu of the signature for that activity on the log sheet. Simply write "see attached" in the box labeled signature. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Sirico.

Your Monday root word of the week is “caust, caut” which means: to burn. This Latin and Greek root appears in many English words such as: cauterize - to burn with a hot instrument; caustic - capable of burning or eating away; holocaust - total devastation, especially by fire.

Wednesday Wellness Wish - That was “Home” by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros.  This is the theme of your Wednesday Wellness wish of the week.  We hope that in little ways and maybe in big ways, PMHS feels like a home to you all.  We want nothing more than for you to feel supported and cared for within these walls.  We know that you can be the best versions of yourself and experience the type of growth and learning that is essential for your future success when you feel good about yourself and feel like this is the right environment for you.  If you don’t always feel like this, please come speak to me, your school counselor or any other staff member who will go out of their way to help you with suggestions and strategies.  Make sure you try your best to connect with other people and with the classes and activities that make PMHS such a vibrant community.  Let’s all do our best to make our school feel like a home away from home.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK: “Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.” ― Martin Luther King Jr.

MONDAY MINDFUL MOMENT: That was Journey and “Don’t stop Believing.”  This is the theme for your Mindful Moment of the week.  Be mindful of the feelings you have in the present time about what you would like to do and accomplish.  As Journey sings, “Hold onto those feelings and don’t stop believing.”  It is incredibly important to have a deep belief in yourself.  Additionally, it is essential to show other people that you have faith and believe in them.  It is very helpful to know that you have the support of friends, family and PMHS staff members when you are trying to achieve a goal.  So don’t stop believing in yourself and others and see how those feelings can turn into a reality you can be proud of. With midterm week coming up, don’t stop believing in yourself and do everything in your power to set yourself up for success.  Please let us know how we can be of help.  We won’t stop believing in you.

BRAINTEASER: Puzzil Primus was born on the 314th day of year 20 B.C. and died on the 271st day of year 20 A.D. How old was he when he died? Email your answers to Mr. Rothstein at jrothstein@pelhamschools.org
