Beat the Winter Blues

As the days get shorter, darker and colder, many of us experience a shift in mood that you might hear called “the winter blues.” You can start to feel like you’ve lost your energy and have a hard time getting excited about things, or you may feel down in general. Here are some tips to help boost your mood and fight those winter blues!

Positive Habits

Write down a list of 5 positive mental health habits you can engage with daily. (EX: making your bed, drinking water, practice deep breathing)

Stay Active

Take a break from your work, bundle up and go for a walk. Regular exercise and sunlight can reduce stress and improve your mood.

Limit Social Media

Too much time on social media can spike feelings of anxiety, depression and loneliness. Try to limit the amount of time online when you can.

Plan your week

Organize your week in a google calendars or a planner. Plan activities that bring you feelings of happiness and achievement.

Stay Connected

Surrounding yourself with positive people that make you feel good is important for your mental health.

Help Others

Whether it’s helping around the house or in the community, helping others can increase positive emotions.

Sleep Hygiene

The proper amount of sleep is essential to your well-being. Limit screen time before bedtime and try to get 8 hrs of sleep.

Ask for Help

If you notice yourself struggling, reach out to family, friends or school faculty/staff. There are resources here at PMHS!

If you or a friend need to talk to someone, please feel free to contact Student Assistant Counselor Ms. LaDisa (Rm 118A) or any PMHS support staff.

PMHS students, this is a reminder that we are all responsible for one another's health, safety and wellbeing.

You are expected to bring a mask with you to school each day.

Continue to wear your mask, completely covering your nose, both in the classroom, in the hallways and throughout the day.

Brief mask breaks are allowable outside of the classroom when eating or drinking but please maintain social distancing when engaging in a brief mask break.
