Update on Fall Athletics

Christian Hodge

Dear Pelham Families

I hope that you are well and enjoying the last few days of summer before we return to school next week. The Section 1 Executive Committee recently announced that the start of the fall JV and Varsity season has been postponed until Tuesday, September 29. In accordance with guidance from the Governor's office, cross country, field hockey, boys and girls soccer, and girls' tennis are permitted to begin at that time and are expected to be able to compete within our region. State officials also announced that "high risk" fall sports, including volleyball, football and competitive cheerleading will be postponed until March 1, 2021. The regular spring sports season has been delayed until April 19, 2021. Additionally, girls' swimming also remains under review as Section 1 gathers data with regard to pool/facility availability in the region.

Though much remains unclear as to how athletics will proceed later this month, we have opened the registration portal for fall sports using FamilyID. For your children to participate in the upcoming season you must register and complete the Athletic Agreement online using the FamilyID system.

Please note that NYSED has waived the physical exam requirement for students for the 2020 Fall season. According to the New York State Education Department, any student who had a physical during the 2018-19 or 2019-20 school year is eligible to participate in interscholastic athletics this Fall (2020) providing they submit an updated healthy history form to the district. At this time, no extension has been granted to Winter or Spring athletes.

Please note that registration is currently open for JV and varsity sports only and we are still awaiting guidance with regard to modified sports (7th & 8th grade).

I want to thank all families and our student athletes for your patience during these challenging times. We look forward to getting our athletes back on the fields, courts and pool as soon as we are able. I look forward to working with our student athletes and families. Please feel free to contact the athletic office if you have any questions by calling (914) 738-8105.

Sincerely,

Christian G. Hodge Sr.
